| This organization builds homes for families who can not afford to own their own home without help. These homes are not "FREE". Every house that is built carries an interest free mortgage for up to twenty five years. This organization provides free labor and the new homeowner pays a monthly mortgage payment to pay off the entire cost of the building material. The homeowner is expected to keep the home in good condition and to be good neighbors. Habitat depends on the repayment of homeowners loans, fund raisers, and outright donations to be able to build homes. The annual walk-a-thon is the major source of income. |
