Literacy Tutor Training

Tutor TrainingAttendees will receive an orientation to the Library's adult literacy program and information which will prepare them to feel comfortable tutoring both adults who need to improve their basic reading and writing skills and also those new to the United States who need help learning to speak and understand spoken English.

No previous teaching experience is necessary. To help someone learn to speak English, tutors do NOT need to speak another language. Tutors learn to individualize instruction to meet the particular needs of their adult learners. Time commitment after the completion of training is from 2 - 4 hours each week. Tutoring is done in a public place such as a library, at a time convenient for the tutor and the learner.
