What’s all this about Podcasts?
By Maggie McKenna, Adult Program Coordinator @ PPL
The Potsdam Public Library has been talking about podcasts a lot lately. We’ve started our own podcast and we have equipment to share! But what’s the deal with podcasts and why do we want to be a part of it?
Well, podcasts are really popular right now, and once you find out what they are, it’s not hard to see why. We know people nowadays consume their media very differently than they once did. With podcasts, you can find something you like and listen to it on demand, whenever you want. There are so many different podcast options - you can pretty much think about something you’re interested in and find a podcast about it. You can often even find a celebrity or professional you really like and find a podcast interview with them or they’ve even created their own podcast. Ultimately, it’s the new talk radio, but with more specific relevance to its listening audience.
Here’s a really great blog about podcasts: https://blog.mindvalley.com/podcasts-beginners-guide/#1.
PPL now has equipment so our patrons can make their own podcasts. If you have something interesting to talk about or would like to interview your friends or role models, you already have a great start; you’ll just need the equipment to record. PPL is here to help you with all of that, and we can even pair you up with people who can help you polish up your final project and get it online.
We’ve also started our own podcast to introduce listeners to our staff and to present some programs including part of our Deep Dive Discussions series. We’re working on increasing our content, so subscribe to Bibliaudio to get notifications when we publish new podcast episodes.
