1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a reading challenge for young children and their families. Reading aloud is one of the best ways to encourage early literacy and a love of reading in young children, and it's never too early to start!
These newly trained tutors from the LIFE Adult Literacy Program are ready to help adults improve their literacy skills in all areas of St. Lawrence County. We welcome new English speakers who would like to improve their ability to speak and understand English, and anyone who needs to strengthen their basic reading and writing skills. For information about free tutoring, contact Bobby Gordon at 315-265-7230 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you come to the library in the evening or on Saturday, you know Lauren Buckley. She’s the cheerful, helpful young woman who pretty much runs things during those times. Here’s the surprising thing, though - Lauren just recently turned eighteen years old; she graduated from Colton Pierrepont Central School last Friday night. We, her work family, are so proud.
So even though we’ve already given her an award for being an Outstanding Student Worker and we’ve had a chance to celebrate Lauren with her family and friends, we also share this small tribute. When you see her, express yourself, because she’s off to SUNY Plattsburgh in a month or so. We’ve all been richer for having her at PPL for a year.
Potsdam is my home, but it hasn’t always been. I’ve decided to make my way here with my family and personally feel like I’ve found a diamond in the rough in this quirky little place. I grew up near New York City where one might think there were always far too many events from which to choose. I don’t remember ever being all that busy with community events as a kid, mainly because I don’t think my community was as connected as we are here.
